Extending the Life of Your Pool with Regular Swimming Pool Maintenance

The easiest way to extend the life of your pool and swimming pool equipment is with regular maintenance.

The easiest way to extend the life of your pool and swimming pool equipment is with regular maintenance. Even if your pool looks crystal clear, weekly pool maintenance is crucial to ensure a healthy environment and prevent unnecessary strain on pool components.

At Billabong Pool Service and Supply, we have over 40 years of experience providing pool servicing and repairs in the Sunshine Coast area. Here are our tips on extending your pool’s lifespan.

Maintain Water Balance

One of the most important aspects of pool care is water balance. Test the chemical balance in your pool water regularly to ensure a pH of between 7.2 to 7.6. This ensures sanitising chemicals work effectively and it prevents damage to swimming pool equipment.

Low pH (high acidity) water corrodes and deteriorates all PVC, vinyl, concrete, and other parts of your pool. Most equipment manufacturers' warranties do not cover damage due to low pH.

If your pool water’s pH is high, it can lead to scaling. Film starts building up in and around pipes, filters, heater elements and other elements. This creates blockages that strains your pool components, leading to wear and tear and higher energy usage.

Regular Filter Check

Allowing too much debris to accumulate in your swimming pool filter is another thing that can reduce the lifespan of your pool components. A blocked-up filter adds pressure on the pool pump and leads to cloudy, unhygienic water. Ensure you regularly clean out the skimmer basket and backwash sand filters or replace cartridges in the cartridge filters at the recommended intervals.

Regular Cleaning

Regularly vacuuming debris from your pool is also essential for cleanliness and protecting pool components from debris and chemically unstable water. Premium robotic pool cleaners such as the Dolphin robotic pool cleaner feature smart navigation tools to efficiently and seamlessly clear away dirt, leaves, algae, and other debris from your pool, while scrubbing away grime.
